Another year of me in the books; 5 to-dos for my next year

I don’t wait until Jan 1 to start my new year. My new year starts Nov 15, the day after my birthday. It’s a day when I reflect on what I’ve learned over the year and determine my goals for the next one. It’s a day when I can start fresh. I can try again. I can give the new me a go.

Here are my top 5 personal goals for my new year:

Be love. I know, I’ve been listening to too many A-to-Zen podcasts, but I think this is a good one. I think of my drive to work and how I just want to cuss someone out for driving too slow or for cutting me off. I’m going to try to make “Be Love” my mantra for my drive and beyond. Say it more, be it more.

my relaxing birthday lunch: queso and a margarita. all is right with the world.

Strive less, stress less. In my older age, I realize that sometimes I try too hard. I think trying less will be easier on me. I don’t need to win all the time. I don’t need to be right all the time. I don’t need to be the best at this or that. And life will go on and it will be great even if I get second, third or last place every time.

Get more involved. My dad isn’t a rich guy but he’s always been the most generous person I know. He feeds the hungry when they’re searching for a meal, brings a smile to a child’s face when they don’t have gifts for Christmas and clothes the poor when they’ve been left in the cold. I want to do more of that. I want to be more like him for the causes, the people and the organizations I believe in.

Go to Cuba. I don’t know when and I don’t know how, but I really, really want to experience Cuba. If it doesn’t happen this next year, then it’ll be ok. I have to remind myself of goal #2. But I really, really want to go ASAP.

Learn to take better pictures. Because of my blog, I’ve actually taken more pictures recently than I ever have. I need to experiment more with angles, light and depth to get those really cool shots people expect from bloggers. Eventually, I’d like to get a good professional camera to solidify my blogger status.

Great goals I especially liked the “I dont have to win all the time”. As I have gotton older I realize time with those I love is much more important then that brass ring. I also love what you said about your dad and trying to be more like him. I think that if we all used what ever ability we have to help those less fortunate the world would be so much better.
