  • What I have learned in my first year of blogging

    Posted on June 28, 2017

A year ago, when I began this blog, I totally envisioned being where I am today—not far from where I started. Blogging is hard. There’s a lot of time and e ffort involved in creating a successful blog. It goes way beyond just writing. Your domain name, your web site design, your navigation and your content […]

  • Pet-owning Travelers: How to Find the Right Dog Sitter

    Posted on June 13, 2017June 13, 2017
    find the right dog sitter

My dog’s special needs make it difficult to find the right dog sitter or boarding facility that is willing to care for him during our travels. He comes with some baggage. Thanks to friends and family, we’ve been able to put off looking for professional sitting and boarding services for a year-and-a-half. But it’s time. He […]

  • My home: where you’ll find love, family and lots of reggae records

    Posted on February 19, 2017March 19, 2017

I believe them when they say home is where the heart is. My home is where my husband is, where my dog is, and it’s where I want to be, too. We’ve made our home into a place that’s full of the things we love and that reminds us of moments, people and places that […]

    Posted on November 9, 2016March 19, 2017

Some of us might not have slept very well last night. I know I didn’t. I think it’s fair to say that a lot of people are going through the motions today in kind of a blur. For those of us who are finding it hard to concentrate, try some of these techniques. These are […]

  • My dog Ferris Bueller’ed us, and we keep falling for it

    Posted on November 4, 2016March 19, 2017

I have a dog. His name is Pete. Pete is about 5 or 6 years old and comes from the streets of Fort Worth. He’s a rescue, and he’s been a Burnett since September 2015. Since September 2015, we’ve taken him to the vet 4 times. Pete has Ferris Bueller’ed us two of those times. […]

  • My State Fair of Texas experience this year and every year

    Posted on October 21, 2016March 19, 2017

It’s been many years since I was a student at St. Thomas Aquinas, but I can remember anxiously awaiting my Charlie in the Chocolate Factory moment. For me, my Golden Ticket was a Student Pass and my Chocolate Factory was the State Fair of Texas. Yes, it happened every year, and every year I was […]

  • I thought I knew my style, but I had no idea

    Posted on September 28, 2016March 19, 2017

I was recently approached for a freelance writing project that sounded a little too good to be true. The client asked: “Would you be open/willing to get a free personal styling session, have pictures taken of you and write about it?” Me: “Uh, duh!” The task was to try on a bunch of cute clothes […]

  • Find a workout that takes you away

    Posted on August 24, 2016March 19, 2017

Fitness is part of my daily routine. And for me, it’s mostly cardio. Here’s the deal—I love food of all kinds, I have what you  call a “healthy appetite,” and my metabolism leans towards snail’s pace. So daily fitness is a must. In an effort to keep it interesting and fun, I’ve sought out exercises […]

    about me

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, I grew up going to Mexico every summer. Spending three months there annually, I was essentially bred to travel. My mom was from Mexico and my dad from Dallas. And I, along with my brother, grew up bilingual. Switching from English to Spanish and back again seemed natural. It seemed easy. That was then. My mom passed away in 1989, and that changed everything.
